This old specimen features sharp, well-crystallized marcasite crystals up to 20 mm, dating back to the 1960s or 70s, some blades are broken but most are intact and most importantly shows no signs of deterioration. The Ives Quarry, a large urban quarry located on the northern edge of Racine, has workings on both sides of Highway 32, connected by a tunnel beneath the highway. This breccia zone has yielded excellent "smoky" calcite crystals and sulfides, notably including superb marcasite crystals such as those seen in this specimen. This particular piece exemplifies the high-quality marcasite that the Ives Quarry is known for.
