This specimen consists of a solid iron-manganese oxide matrix adorned with sharp, lustrous, jet-black manganite crystals that radiate in striking sprays from the matrix in various directions. The highly reflective, prismatic manganite crystals give the piece a dynamic appearance and exemplify manganese mineralization from this historic mine.
This famous locality once played a significant role in North American industrial efforts, producing large quantities of iron for Canadian and U.S. military needs during World War II, among other projects. An outstanding example of manganite from a renowned wartime mining site.
