This specimen features silver-white granular maldonite running through iron-stained quartz in several different spots. Maldonite is an isometric-hexoctahedral mineral containing bismuth and gold, making it a rare and significant find. This particular specimen was most likely collected at "Nugget Reef," a locality known for producing such minerals.
As a type locality piece, it holds particular value, having been originally collected by H. K. Worner in 1973. Dr. Tarassoff acquired the specimen during a trip to Melbourne, Australia, in 1974. Maldonite specimens from the type locality are highly sought after, and the association with iron-stained quartz adds further aesthetic and scientific appeal.
