This specimen showcases velvety green malachite, accompanied by crystals of colourless cerussite. The malachite forms fibrous, hemispherical aggregates. The piece is in very good condition and is a fine example from this rare and historic Irish locality. The malachite comes from a famous, now-closed Pb-Zn-Cu mine that was active from the 1960s to 1982, but much of the oxidized portion of the deposit was removed before collectors had access to the high-quality specimens from this site. Nowadays only micro-mounts can be collected As a result, well-formed pieces like this, (especially those featuring cerussite!) are exceedingly rare, making this a noteworthy addition to any collection.
