This palm-sized specimen from the famed Musonoi Mine, in the Democratic Republic of Congo features a rich, sparkling, botryoidal mass of malachite. The surface shimmers under light, showing off the intense, vibrant green colour for which Musonoi malachite is renowned. Fine malachite specimens from Musonoi are considered rare, as most were mined during the prolific period of the 1960s through the 1980s. Very few comparable pieces have surfaced in more recent decades, making well-preserved examples like this one increasingly difficult to obtain. A classic representation of the locality, this specimen captures both the beauty and history of one of the Congo’s most celebrated mineral-producing regions.

From the worldwide mineral collection of Peter Tarassoff, this piece is not only a fine example of Musonoi malachite but also a collector’s treasure with provenance from a highly regarded collection.
