Showcased here is a gemmy, olive-green crystal with a beautiful stepped-growth face and of impressive size. The finest Ludlamites from any North American locality originate from the Blackbird Mine in Idaho. This specimen, dating back to the 1960s, comes from a long-closed mine, ensuring no further substantial material will be found. A very uncommon iron phosphate species!

The Blackbird District is renowned for its world-class copper-cobalt deposits and holds the largest known cobalt ore reserves in the United States. Mining in the area began in 1893 for gold, with cobalt’s presence recognized in 1901.
