Lustrous, opaque, deep-green mm-sized crystals of libethenite richly line a vug within an oxide-coated quartz matrix, sourced from the type locality at Lubietová, Slovakia. This historic copper deposit has been known and worked since the Bronze Age (circa 3200–600 BC), making it one of the world’s oldest mining regions. Well-crystallized libethenite specimens from Lubietová are very uncommon on the market. A classic and choice example from the famous type locality, this piece comes from the collection of Dr. Peter Tarassoff, adding both provenance and significance to this already exceptional specimen.
