Leucophanite, typically found as microcrystals under 5mm, is represented here by a fairly large specimen showcasing a sizeable tabular, orthorhombic crystal, with its characteristic yellow-white hue.
Leucophanite forms in pegmatites and alkali igneous complexes, with colours ranging from yellow and greenish to white, and sometimes pink under UV light. While specimens have been found in locations such as Norway, Quebec, and Russia, examples from Mont Saint-Hilaire have become increasingly rare due to restricted access to the site in recent years. This piece is an very good representation of the species and a testament to the unique mineralogical diversity of Mont Saint-Hilaire.
