Kasolite, Torbernite, Malachite

Musonoi Mine, Shaba
Democratic Republic of Congo
Dimensions: 2.8x1.6x2.2 cm
Price: CA

This is a rich specimen of kasolite, accompanied by a bit of torbernite from the renowned Musonoi Mine in Zaire, a locality famous for its rare uranyl selenites and palladium minerals. The specimen features vibrant orange prismatic kasolite crystals set against a contrasting green matrix of torbernite and malachite.

Kasolite, a rare uranium silicate, is an oxidation product of uraninite and is highly sought after by collectors due to its scarcity and brilliant appearance. This specimen showcases well-formed micro-crystals of both kasolite and torbernite, making it an excellent example of these rare uranium minerals. Given its composition, it is slightly radioactive, a common characteristic for minerals of this type. Specimens like this are difficult to obtain today, especially in such fine condition, and are considered classic representations of the species.
