This is a rich specimen of kasolite from the renowned Musonoi Mine in Zaire, a locality famous for its rare uranyl selenites and palladium minerals. The specimen features well formed "star burst" crystallizations of vibrant orange prismatic kasolite crystals set against a contrasting green malachite matrix.
Kasolite, a rare uranium silicate, is an oxidation product of uraninite. This specimen showcases well-formed micro-crystals of kasolite, making it an excellent example of these rare uranium minerals. Given its composition, it is slightly radioactive, a common characteristic for minerals of this type. Specimens like this are difficult to obtain today, especially in such fine condition, and are considered classic representations of the species.
