This is a classic and highly aesthetic specimen from the renowned Ojuela Mine in Mapimí, Durango, Mexico. It features fine-quality, well-formed, white hemimorphite crystals arranged in elegant fan-shaped groups across a limonite matrix. The crystals are highly lustrous, translucent, and show excellent sharpness. All major crystals appear to be in excellent condition, displaying the crisp form and bright sheen that define top-tier hemimorphite from this locality.
Many of the world’s finest hemimorphite specimens originate from the Ojuela Mine, a historic lead–zinc–silver deposit worked since the colonial era. Situated on the edge of the Sierra de Mapimí, the mine is famous for producing a remarkable array of colourful and well-crystallized secondary minerals, including adamite, aurichalcite, rosasite, and of course, exceptional hemimorphite.
This specimen is an outstanding representation of the material for which Ojuela is celebrated, both mineralogically significant and aesthetically striking, making it an excellent addition to any collection of Mexican classics or secondary zinc species.
