This specimen is a mass of bright, lustrous, botryoidal hematite, making it an excellent sample. It originates from pockets in the sandstone banks of the Shubenacadie River at Black Rock, with some labels listing the nearest town as Old Barns. Situated in the tidal zone, the site is characterized by its crumbling rock and mud.
