This is a specimen-grade example of crystallized halite, showcasing sharp, transparent crystals—one reaching 2.7 cm—from the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland, the world’s most famous and historic underground salt deposit. Mining at Wieliczka began in the 1200s, and its remarkable halite crystals have been admired and illustrated in mineralogical texts for centuries. Despite their historic significance, fine specimens like this are rarely seen on the market today. This particular piece features well-formed, mostly matte crystals and displays a slight reddish-orange fluorescence under shortwave UV light. It comes from the collection of Dr. Peter Tarassoff, adding both scientific and historical interest. A beautiful and classic halite specimen from a legendary locality.
