This specimen features rare hagendorfite crystals on matrix. Hagendorfite is a greenish-black iron phosphate mineral typically found in complex granite pegmatites; however, in the Yukon, it occurs in phosphatic nodules in shale. It is known from only three locations worldwide: Hagendorf in Bavaria, Germany; Rapid Creek in Yukon Territory, Canada; and the Palermo #1 mine near North Groton, Grafton County, New Hampshire, USA. The mineral is usually massive and can be associated with triphylite, wolfeite, and hematite.
The previous owner, Mr. Steede, confirmed the species identification through EDS in 2017. He also noted that he acquired the specimen from Paddy Collins, a mineral dealer based in Ottawa and one of the first to collect in the area.
