Gypsum (var. Hourglass Selenite)

This monster of an hourglass selenite specimen features an extremely glassy, fully terminated crystal with razor-sharp edges and well developed form. The crystal displays excellent clarity and well-defined structure, with some clay inclusions present.

Crystals from this locality formed within clay-rich sediments, which acted as a natural protective barrier, preserving their pristine condition by shielding them from weathering and mechanical damage. Selenite from the Peace River area is also known for its distinctive fluorescence under UV light. Twinned crystals exhibit a striking hourglass-shaped zonal pattern, a well-documented and characteristic feature of this occurrence.
