An early and highly practical Geological Survey of Canada field guide, Guide Book No. 2: Excursions in the Eastern Townships of Quebec and the Eastern Part of Ontario (1913) covers a number of classic geological and mineral localities within the Grenville Province.
Of particular interest to collectors and rockhounds, the volume includes coverage of the Haliburton–Bancroft area of central Ontario, one of Canada’s most well-known mineral collecting regions. Additional sections address mineral deposits near Kingston and asbestos-bearing regions of Quebec, providing detailed, locality-based geological descriptions typical of the Geological Survey’s early field excursion guides.
This example is in original paper wraps and shows wear consistent with age and use, including edge wear and partial separation at the covers. The interior pages remain clean and well-preserved. Most maps are present, though the rear envelope is empty and originally contained additional maps.
While more fragile than the cloth-bound volumes in the series, this guide retains strong appeal due to its direct relevance to classic collecting areas within the Grenville Province.
