Grossular

An unusual and attractive specimen featuring earthy-green grossular crystals scattered across the upper surface of a brecciated, chromium-rich rodingite matrix. The grossular occurs as well-formed dodecahedral crystals. It the piece was once partially covered in calcite, which has since been removed, revealing the underlying crystal faces more clearly.

This specimen comes from the Orford Nickel Mine, Québec, a classic locality known for its chromium-rich assemblages and distinctive grossular occurrences. Material from this site often shows unusual habits and associations not commonly seen elsewhere. A fine and somewhat uncommon example of grossular from this historic Canadian locality.
