A very interesting piece showing several of the interesting minerals that occurred at the Hollinger Mine. There is lots of native gold intermixed with the sylvanite and a zone of highly fluorescent scheelite through the middle. The Hollinger Gold Mine was one of the greatest gold mines of all time. From 1910 to 1945 it produced 14.5 troy ounces of gold. after that, it continued to produce many more millions of ounces until it closed in 1967, or so.
With wild fires so much in the news these days, it behooves us to remember that they are not a new phenomenon. Back in 1911, the entire Hollinger Mine and facilities were destroyed by a forest fire and 73 people died in the blaze.
