This historic specimen originates from the Sigma Mine in Val-d'Or, Quebec—part of the renowned Abitibi greenstone belt. The Sigma Mine operated from 1937 to 1997. As part of the larger Sigma-Lamaque complex, the site has collectively yielded nearly 10 million ounces of gold. Following its closure, the property changed hands multiple times before being acquired by Eldorado Gold in 2017, with commercial production resuming in 2019. This particular specimen features rich visible gold—estimated at approximately 5 grams—alongside a significant amount of cleaved scheelite on the lower portion, and weighs 49 grams in total.
