This palm-sized specimen features visible native gold in quartz from the famous Dome Mine, Timmins, Ontario. The piece is notably rich, with gold exposed on both sides and displays very well on both sides. Based on specific gravity testing combined with visual assessment, it is reasonable to estimate the gold content in the range of approximately 23–28 grams, making this a strong and impressive example of Canadian lode gold.
The Dome Mine is one of Canada’s most historic and important gold mines, having been in continuous operation since 1910 and forming a cornerstone of the Timmins gold camp within the Abitibi Greenstone Belt. Gold mineralization here occurs primarily in Archean-aged quartz veins associated with major shear zones, a geological setting responsible for some of the most prolific gold production in the world. Specimens of gold in quartz from the Dome Mine are increasingly difficult to obtain, particularly pieces of this size and richness, making this specimen both a highly desirable display piece and a classic representative of one of Ontario’s most significant gold localities.
