This solid specimen represents germanite-rich ore from the famous lower levels of the Tsumeb Mine, Namibia, specifically from the deeply developed third oxidation zone. This part of the deposit is renowned for its extraordinary enrichment in rare elements, particularly germanium, and for producing a remarkable suite of uncommon and type-locality minerals.

Germanite, a rare copper–iron–germanium sulfosalt, was first described from Tsumeb, making this iconic locality the type locality for the species. The ore displays patches of iridescent magenta and bronzy tones, giving the specimen a vibrant appearance that stands out among typical massive sulphide material. A classic and highly representative example of germanium-rich ore from one of the world’s most celebrated and mineralogically diverse deposits.
