This distinctive specimen of massive light-green gaspeite originates from its type locality in the Gaspé Peninsula, Québec. Gaspeite is a rare nickel carbonate mineral, a member of the Calcite Group, and specimens from this locality are seldom seen on the market. An an excellent example of this rare nickel-bearing carbonate from its original discovery site.
The locality consists of a massive two-foot-wide vein of gaspeite, enclosed within a varicolored siliceous dolomite of Middle Silurian age. It was discovered during exploration efforts by the New Jersey Zinc Exploration Co.
