This specimen showcases cuboctahedral crystals of galena with a sprinkling of pyrite on the faces, growing on a smoky quartz druse. Minor red sphalerite is also present on the matrix, which is the typical "hog chawed" chert from the mine. The crystals show a bit of bruising on some edges. This classic old style originates from the 1930s-1950s finds in the historic Tri-State Lead Mining District. Once common at trade shows, these specimens are now seldom seen, making this piece a rare and valuable example of the mineralogy from this renowned locality.
