This miniature specimen features galena crystals from the world-famous Tsumeb Mine in Namibia. The crystals display unusual and somewhat distorted forms, suggesting the intriguing possibility that they may represent pseudomorphs after an earlier mineral species (azurite?). Unlike the typical cubic or octahedral habits of galena, these odd shapes hint at a more complex paragenesis. Specimens like this highlight the unique mineralogical diversity for which Tsumeb is renowned. This example comes from the collection of Robert Yeoman, an Irish-born collector long based in Toronto, whose holdings are particularly respected for their Tsumeb material.
