Fluoro-Richterite

Gibson Road East (Titanite Hill), Tory Hill, Ontario
Canada
Dimensions: 9.3x5.8x6.5 cm
Largest crystal size: 71 mm
Price: CA

This specimen consists of three complete interpenetrated twinned crystals of fluoro-richterite. The crystals are of a good size, showing sharp forms and boasting a satin-to-glassy lustre. Crystals of this quality are exceedingly rare and are specific to the calcite vein-dyke systems of Ontario, particularly around the Tory Hill locality. According to Mindat.org, the locality was discovered by local collector Steve Smith around 1995, this area, approximately 100 meters north of Gibsons Road, has since yielded many notable Grenville specimens including fluorapatite, titanite, and of course, fluor-richterite. These large crystals are found within or weathered out of calcite vein-dykes.

This particular crystal combo, is an impressive specimen for its size and quality, with features that make it worthy of a fine mineral collection. The fluoro-richterite crystals from this site have become prized by collectors worldwide due to their rarity, remarkable size, and clarity, attributes that are seldom seen in this mineral.
