This specimen is an exceptionally large and sharp twinned crystal of fluoro-richterite from the renowned Tory Hill vein dikes, boasting a unique satin-to-glassy lustre. Crystals of this quality are exceedingly rare and are specific to the calcite vein-dyke systems of Ontario, particularly around the Tory Hill locality. According to Mindat.org, the locality was discovered by local collector Steve Smith around 1995, this area, approximately 100 meters north of Gibsons Road, has since yielded many notable mineral specimens including fluoro-richterite. These large crystals are found within or weathered out of calcite vein-dykes.
This particular crystal, although missing a termination, remains a very impressive specimen for its size and quality, features that make it worthy of museum display. The fluoro-richterite crystals from this site have become prized by collectors worldwide due to their rarity, remarkable size, and clarity, attributes that are seldom seen in this mineral.
