This striking specimen features icey green fluorite octahedrons coated in a dense druse of white quartz on calcite. Scattered across the quartz are several chalcopyrite crystals that have a fine, powdery green surface alteration. Under ultraviolet (UV) light, the fluorite exhibits vivid multi-colour fluorescence, making it an especially dynamic display piece.
The specimen originates from the historic AGS Fluorspar Mine in Newfoundland, a significant fluorspar deposit worked intermittently over several decades. It was acquired from a former site manager directly involved in mine operations, providing valuable provenance and context. Although the mine is currently inactive, the deposit remains of interest and may see renewed development depending on future economic conditions.
An excellent and uncommon example from this notable Canadian fluorspar locality, combining aesthetic crystal form, strong fluorescence, and a direct link to the region’s rich mining history.
