This striking specimen features a sharply formed, highly lustrous fluorite cube with razor-sharp edges, attractively perched on a sparkly, brecciated limestone matrix. The crystal shows a translucent yellow-brown interior with colourless outer zones. Under ultraviolet light, the fluorite displays a fascinating ghostly white fluorescence, a hallmark of material from this locality. Mounted on an acrylic base, the specimen presents beautifully and makes for a strong miniature. The crystal is in excellent condition, super minor edgewear, and the whole crystal is there.
The specimen comes from the well-known "Flamboro" limestone quarry in Flamborough, Ontario, operated by Dufferin Aggregates. Fluorite from this quarry is highly sought after. The crystals are often compared to classic fluorites from Clay Center, Ohio, but are considerably rarer in Ontario. Access to the quarry is strictly controlled, with only limited, supervised club visits permitted, and even then successful finds are difficult.
