This striking specimen features tightly packed icy green fluorite octahedra with subtle hoppered faces that shimmer under bright light. When exposed to ultraviolet (UV) illumination, the piece displays a vivid light blue fluorescence. The specimen originates from the historic AGS Fluorspar Mine in Newfoundland, a significant fluorspar deposit worked intermittently over several decades. It was acquired from a former site manager directly involved in mine operations, providing valuable context and provenance. Although the mine is currently inactive, the deposit remains of interest and may see renewed development depending on future economic conditions.
An excellent and uncommon example from this notable Canadian fluorspar locality, combining aesthetic crystal form, strong fluorescence, and a direct link to the region’s rich mining history.
