$2,500.00

A remarkably large and impressive cabinet specimen of fluorite from the historic Illinois–Kentucky Fluorspar District, one of the most celebrated fluorite-producing regions in the United States. Weighing approximately 20 lbs, this piece features a striking combination of rich purple fluorite crystals grown over an earlier generation of yellow-zoned fluorite, creating dramatic colour contrast and superb visual depth, especially when lit from the back. The largest crystal measures about 2.75 inches across.

The crystals display distinctive hoppered growth and well-developed zoning, classic features associated with fluorite from the Cave-in-Rock area. While the specimen shows some condition notes, including significant damage to a large crystal near the lower centre and abrasions to several crystals along the upper right, it remains a remarkable centerpiece specimen, especially given its size. Large display fluorite of this calibre from the district has become increasingly uncommon on the market.

Although this piece did not come with an original label, its crystal habit, colour zoning, and overall character strongly suggest an origin from the Cave-in-Rock locality, long considered one of the premier fluorite sources worldwide.
