Fluorite

Here's a striking, glassy, sharp and lustrous cube of fluorite stacked up on a bit of massive fluorite and a bit of sparkly, brecciated limestone matrix. Most of the crystal is there, just some bruising and contacting at the back. It comes from the well-known limestone quarry in Flamborough, Ontario. Under longwave UV light, the fluorite exhibits a fascinating ghostly-white fluorescence, a characteristic feature of fluorite from this locality. These cubes bear a strong resemblance to the classic fluorites from Clay Center, Ohio, but are significantly rarer in Ontario. The specimen is placed on an acrylic base for display.
