Fluorite

Flamboro Quarry, West Flamborough Township, Hamilton, Ontario
Canada
Dimensions: 5.6x5.1x3.3 cm
Largest crystal size: 21 mm
Price: CA

Here's a striking cluster of two, glassy, very sharp and lustrous cubes of fluorite sitting on a matrix made up of brecciated limestone and masses of cleaved fluorite. It has a golden brown colour, characteristic of the well-known limestone quarry in Flamborough, Ontario. Under longwave UV light, the fluorite exhibits a fascinating ghostly-white fluorescence, a characteristic feature of fluorite from this locality. These cubes bear a strong resemblance to the classic fluorites from Clay Center, Ohio, but are significantly rarer in Ontario. Collected in the spring of 2024.
