This specimen features a cluster of translucent purple fluorite cubes, with one prominent crystal highlighted at the center-top of the piece. The fluorite cubes are beautifully accented by a dusting of peach-coloured micro quartz crystals and rest on a matrix that has been sawn flat on the bottom for stable display.
This specimen features a striking cluster of translucent purple fluorite cubes accompanied by a patch of smoky quartz crystals on matrix. It originates from the Highway 17 road cut near Yesno Township, Ontario, commonly referred to as "Rossport." Although the locality is still accessible, collecting high-quality specimens has become increasingly difficult. Visitors can still find a few fluorite cubes or quartz crystals, but exceptional pieces are rare. Geologically, the area is significant, underlain by an igneous complex of granite and pegmatite. The granite is intersected by numerous narrow pegmatite veins, primarily composed of quartz and coarse-grained feldspar.
Fluorite veins are often found in the vicinity, appearing on the surfaces of joint planes as seams of purple fluorite cubes. Collected many years ago, this specimen is notable for its small cabinet size, vivid colour, and sharp fluorite cubes. The added presence of quartz enhances its appeal, making it an excellent representation of this now-rare locality.
