Fluorapatite

Lake Clear, Eganville, Ontario
Canada
Dimensions: 5.8x2.6x2.4 cm
Price: CA

$55.00

This specimen is a charming example of apatite from the Lake Clear area. The crystal is squat and rounded, with green to brown colouration and a smaller crystal emerging from its tip. While it has a few minor bruises, the piece remains a complete and appealing example of apatite's unique forms.

Mining activity in the Lake Clear region dates back to the late 19th century. Between 1879 and 1882, approximately 200 tons of apatite were mined from Turner’s Island, as apatite was highly valued as a source of phosphate for fertilizer. The area includes several well-known historic localities, such as the Smart, Lost, and Meany Mines. More recently, the Miller Property, located near the Smart and Lost Mines, has yielded exceptional specimens, adding to the mineralogical significance of this region northeast of Bancroft, Ontario.
