This specimen, from the calcite vein-dyke deposits of Bedford Township, Ontario, features striking dark blue fluorapatite crystals with one more prominent crystal most prominently displayed atop a friable matrix primarily composed of coarse-grained white calcite. The entire piece, both crystal and matrix, has been carefully stabilized with a thin layer of glue to prevent any cracking or crumbling.
Unique among Grenville Province localities, this deposit lacks amphiboles, feldspar, and other common silicates that often accompany apatite in marble and vein-dyke environments. The clean, calcite-rich setting allows the fluorapatite to stand out beautifully, making it a distinct and highly desirable example for collectors of Canadian minerals.
