Fluorapatite

Smart Mine aka "Miller Property", Bonnechere Valley, Renfrew Co., Ontario
Canada
Dimensions: 6.3x2.4x2.1 cm
Price: CA

This specimen features a fair-sized fluorapatite crystal with some roughness around the terminations and minor chipping in a few spots. One end has a better-defined, pointed termination than the other. The crystal originates from a modern-day classic Grenville locality, popular with Ontario rockhounds, known as the Smart Mine, or "Miller Property." This locality, a calcite vein-dyke system, was once mined for fluorapatite, which was used in the production of fertilizers.
