An impressive thumbnail specimen featuring a terminated, tapered crystal of fergusonite from the classic J.G. Gole Quarry, Ontario, Canada. The crystal displays a rich brownish-black to earthy-brown colouration and a well-developed termination. A highly representative thumbnail example of this uncommon rare-earth mineral.

Fergusonite-(Y) is an uncommon yttrium niobate typically found in rare-earth-bearing pegmatites and related placer deposits. Material from the Madawaska area is especially prized among collectors of Canadian pegmatite minerals. Although fergusonite was once considered a single species, it is now divided into fergusonite-(Y), fergusonite-(Ce), and fergusonite-(Nd). This specimen, represents classic material from the region and is rarely seen on the market. Well-crystallized examples such as this are highly desirable for collectors of rare-earth and pegmatite minerals.
