This specimen features a platy leaf of microcrystalline electrum—a naturally occurring gold-silver alloy. Electrum specimens are exceptionally rare from Alaska, this piece comes from the Greens Creek Mine, a polymetallic deposit known for its Ag-Au-Pb-Zn mineralization. The Greens Creek Mine began operations in February 1989 and, after a brief shutdown in 1993, resumed production in 1996 following a major modernization effort. It remains a significant producer of gold and silver. This specimen is a fine representation of electrum from this important and geologically complex locality, making it a must-have for species or locality collectors.
