This striking specimen is covered in light pink saddled dolomite crystals, featuring a central mass of clear quartz and a patch of pyrite on the back. It is a fine piece from a long-closed locality and would display well in a cabinet.
The specimen originates from the Sainte-Clotilde quarry (formerly Marcil quarry) near the village of Sainte-Clotilde-De-Châteauguay in Montérégie, Québec, which is now closed to collectors. The quarry operated between 1980 and 2008 in dolomitic limestone (Beekmantown formation). During the 1990s, superb calcite and quartz specimens were found in large cavities. The quarry was also known for pyrite, chalcopyrite, anatase, sphalerite, barite, and some secondary copper minerals.
