Diopside

Wilberforce area, Monmouth twp., Highlands East twp., Haliburton Co., Ontario
Canada
Dimensions: 3.3x2.0x1.1 cm
Price: CA

This specimen features a pairing of two sharp, gemmy, and highly lustrous translucent green diopside crystals, exhibiting excellent clarity and form. The crystals come from a diopside-rich skarn, a zone known for its unique mineralization within the Grenville geological province. Well-formed diopside crystals like these are uncommon from this classic locality, making the specimen particularly desirable for collectors.

An old collection number is affixed to the underside of the specimen, adding a layer of historical interest. Diopside from this region is often associated with skarn-type deposits, where metamorphism of limestone and dolostone in contact with igneous intrusions creates ideal conditions for the formation of such sharp and well-defined crystals.
