Descloizite

The piece features inter-grown columns of descloizite spearpoints arranged like a sharp spiky spine down the centre of an arrowhead. The crystals are highly lustrous and display a rich rust-red hue. This specimen is complete all around, except for the attachment point. It serves as an excellent representative of the species for the famous locality, which was discovered in 1913 and mined until 1978. The Berg Aukas Zn-Pb-V deposit is known for its remarkable and large descloizite crystals, producing the world’s finest, often found in vugs and fractures within karst-fill or collapse breccia. These descloizite specimens commonly occur in cavities adjacent to oxidized zinc ores like smithsonite and willemite. This is an outstanding example.
