This specimen is a classic thumbnail example of crocoite from the famous lead mines of Tasmania, featuring vibrant, jackstraw-style aggregates of acicular, electric orange-red crystals. The crocoite prisms are lustrous, translucent, and rich in colour. What is nice about this little piece is that the three main front-facing crystals are nicely terminated. Purchased in the 1990s, this significant older-style specimen exemplifies the exceptional quality for which Tasmanian crocoite is renowned. The sturdy matrix ensures the piece can be safely handled or shipped internationally. Tasmania has produced the world’s most impressive crocoite specimens, solidifying the species' reputation among collectors. Without these discoveries, crocoite might not hold the prominence it does today in the mineral world.
