This lot consists of two doubly terminated, blue-grey corundum crystals from the renowned corundum-producing region of the Soutpansberg Mountains in South Africa. These well-formed crystals exhibit the characteristic hexagonal prismatic habit of corundum, with natural terminations on 3 of 4 ends. An excellent representation of the material from this historic locality.
Soutpansberg, meaning "Salt Pan Mountain," is a prominent mountain range in the Vhembe District of Limpopo Province. The region is geologically significant, known for hosting a variety of metamorphic mineral deposits, including corundum. Old-time specimens like these are becoming increasingly rare, making them a desirable addition for collectors of classic localities.
