Canada

This specimen showcases a very large, hexagonal, brassy-brown, corundum crystal from a historic corundum mine. The mine was the first producer of corundum in the province, discovered in 1876, but mining did not commence until 1900.  The Craigmont Mine began operations from 1900 and production continued until the mill's closure in June 1921. This specimen is not only a representation of the mineral itself but also a piece of the rich history surrounding corundum mining in the region.
