Chrysotile (var. Riebeckite or "Crocidolite")

Knob Lake, Quebec
Canada
Dimensions: 8.1x3.2x3.0 cm
Price: CA

This rare specimen features blue-gray asbestos fibers (fibrous riebeckite) exposed along a fracture, on minimal matrix. It was originally labeled as "crocidolite," an outdated term for this fibrous variety of riebeckite—a member of the amphibole supergroup and considered the most hazardous of all asbestos minerals. While crocidolite is best known from deposits in South Africa and Western Australia, it has also been reported from Quebec, Canada, though such occurrences are exceedingly rare and limited in extent.

Safety Note: Riebeckite is highly carcinogenic due to its fine, needle-like fibres and high bio-persistence in the lungs. Extreme caution is required when handling or storing this specimen. It is not recommended for casual collecting or display without proper containment and safety protocols.

Note: All prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD). International customers are charged in CAD, exchange rate is calculated automatically by your bank/paypal upon checkout.
