This is an exceptional small cabinet specimen of serpentine from the world-famous Jeffrey Mine in Asbestos, Quebec. Displaying a pleasing light green colouration, the piece has a wonderful waxy surface texture, making it a fine representative of the serpentine group. The Jeffrey Mine, once one of the largest asbestos producers in the world, is also celebrated by collectors for producing superb mineral specimens, particularly serpentine and chrysotile. While most widely recognized as a source of asbestos, the mine has yielded a surprising diversity of secondary minerals, and fine serpentine examples like this are increasingly difficult to obtain since the mine’s closure. This specimen stands out not only for its aesthetic appeal but also as a scientifically significant piece from a classic and now-extinct Canadian locality.
