This is an exceptional specimen of chrysotile (asbestos) from the historic Cassiar Mine in northern British Columbia. The fibrous crystals are beautifully chatoyant, showing iridescent green fibres with excellent lustre. The Cassiar Mine was one of Canada’s most important chrysotile producers, operating from the early 1950s until its closure in 1992, and is now an iconic locality among collectors. Despite the negative associations with asbestos, this specimen stands out as both a striking display piece and a scientifically significant example of chrysotile from one of the country’s best-known asbestos mines.
