This is an exceptional specimen of chrysotile (asbestos) from the Jeffrey Mine in Quebec. The fibrous crystals are beautifully chatoyant, showing iridescent green fibres with excellent lustre. Once one of the world’s largest asbestos producers, the now-extinct Jeffrey Mine is renowned for specimens of this quality. Despite the negative associations with asbestos, this piece stands out as an outstanding and scientifically significant example of chrysotile.
