This striking, but small, specimen features greenish-blue hemispheres of chrysocolla/malachite, attractively contrasted against a dark, iron-rich gossan matrix. The specimen originates from the historic Planet Mine, located in La Paz County, Arizona. Discovered in 1863, the Planet Mine was the principal producer in the district and operated intermittently through 1937. It was primarily an underground copper and iron mine, but also yielded silver, gold, and silica. At its peak, the property comprised 31 patented claims. Though long inactive, remnants of the mine's early activity—including old workings, building foundations, and the former post office site—remain visible today.

The Planet Mine is well known among collectors for its secondary copper minerals, particularly chrysocolla, which often displays excellent colour and form.
