This specimen comes from an abandoned copper mine in Katanga, originally opened in 1915. Unlike other well-known localities in the region, mineral specimens from this mine are exceptionally rare, with chrysocolla being particularly scarce. This sculptural and vibrantly banded specimen displays striking layers of turquoise-blue, powder-blue, and green, artistically arranged across all sides of the underlying matrix. A particularly intriguing feature is the power blue layer, which may contain rare copper minerals known to the area such as likasite or buttgenbachite, though further analysis is needed. Adding to its appeal, a banded layer of bright emerald-green primary malachite runs through the piece.
